5 ways you can help us make a noise about bullying behaviour outside of Anti-Bullying week

Now more than ever, the issue of bullying behaviour is one that requires attention and immediate action.

Although Anti-Bullying Week serves as a brilliant annual call to action, we tirelessly work throughout the year to try and reduce and prevent the different types of bullying behaviours that affect people from all walks of life. This blog explores ways in which you can support the anti-bullying cause and BulliesOut, outside the designated week to make a lasting impact in creating a safer and more inclusive society.

1) Stay Educated

Being knowledgeable and informed about bullying behaviour is crucial in the effort to deal with the issue. Keep yourself updated on the latest trends, statistics, and research related to bullying behaviour by taking the initiative. We have a range of resources and information on our website that you can check out! By educating yourself on the various types of bullying behaviour and acknowledging the impact it has, you can become an agent of change and take an informed approach to anti-bullying.

2) Donate To The Cause

There are different ways you can donate to our cause and help support our work; you can donate your time and also your money. For example we always have fundraisers that you can get involved in, like our ‘Step into September’, which you can learn more about here. We thrive on the support of volunteers. If you have spare time, consider using it to help organise events, workshops, or awareness campaigns in your local community! Volunteer opportunities can range from participating in mentoring programs for individuals affected by bullying behaviour to taking on challenges to help continue to reduce bullying behaviour. Check out this page for more information on volunteering with BulliesOut. If you’re able to donate money, you can make a one-off donation but we also accept standing orders. All of our work is vital and is to improve the lives of those affected by bullying behaviour. To do this, we rely heavily on donations of all those able to help.

3) Use Social Media To Spread Awareness

Consider using your own social media to raise awareness about the consequences of bullying behaviour and any relevant info around the issue that you want people to hear about. Share our content on your social media channels, participate in discussions about preventing bullying behaviour and inspire your friends and followers to get involved. By amplifying the message, you play a vital role in fostering a society that stands against bullying behaviour and fosters compassion and empathy. You can follow us on our Social Media channels, interacting with our content can help us spread our message even further!

4) Be a Role Model

Leading by example is a really effective way to deal with bullying behaviour. Demonstrate kindness, respect, and empathy in your everyday interactions. Whether it is in the workplace, at school or just out and about. By being a positive role model, you are helping to create cultures where bullying behaviour is not tolerated. Don’t be a bystander, if you witness bullying behaviour, report it. Everyone deserves to feels seen, heard, and valued. A lot of online negativity is caused by people posting on the spur of the moment. They might make a wrong assumption or be in a bad mood and this causes them to spew negativity into the comments section. Those reading the negative comments will feel hurt and upset and dragged down by it all.

5) Advocate for Anti-Bullying Programmes

Young people’s attitudes and behaviours are greatly influenced by school and the culture within it. You can make a difference by advocating for and supporting the implementation of anti-bullying programmes in schools. Attend parents evenings, school committees and try to participate in initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive school environment. Your involvement can help foster a culture of respect and understanding. If you are a student yourself, reporting bullying behaviour to a teacher can always help to make an environment where bullying behaviour is not tolerated. Our Peer2Peer and Playground Pals prgrammes are perfect for supporting a school’s anti-bullying campaign.

The workplace is also a common but often overlooked place where bullying behaviour takes place. If any of your colleagues are displaying bullying behaviour, make sure to raise this issue with a manager or your workplace HR department. Bullying behaviour should not be tolerated anywhere and it is important that if it happens in the workplace, it is taken seriously. If one of your peers is being bullied, reach out, let them know they are not alone! Anti-Bullying Week may bring attention to the problem, but dealing with bullying behaviour requires a continuous effort throughout the year. By staying updated, dedicating your time to volunteer, organising fundraisers, raising awareness, supporting anti-bullying programmes, and being a positive influence, you play an active role in our ongoing work.
