Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is fast approaching, taking place from the 13th to the 17th of November, with the theme: “Make a Noise.” This theme challenges the silence that often surrounds bullying behaviour. We must no longer stand by silently when bullying behaviour occurs, nor should we dismiss it as ‘just banter.’ This blog aims to shed light on how you can get involved and support the cause.

Information for Parents and Carers
Parents, your role is pivotal in creating a safe and nurturing environment for your children. Here’s how you can make a difference during Anti-Bullying Week:
- Open Conversations: Engage in meaningful discussions with your children. Let them know you’re there to listen, support and protect them. Use this week as a starting point to have deeper conversations about their experiences and concerns. Ask open-ended questions and actively listen to their responses.
- Educate Yourself: Take the time to educate yourself about the signs of bullying behaviour and online bullying. Awareness is the first step towards prevention. Dive into books, online resources and attend seminars or webinars to broaden your understanding of the issue. The more informed you are, the better equipped you’ll be to support your child.
- Community Support: Encourage your local community to take part in Anti-Bullying Week. Go beyond the confines of your home and actively engage with other parents, schools and local organisations. Organise awareness events and information sessions for parents so that they can learn how to recognise signs of bullying behaviour and support their children effectively. Collaborative efforts within the community can make a significant impact.
We also have a dedicated page on our website for Parents and Carers which provides much more information all year round.
Information for Workplaces
Bullying behaviour doesn’t just happen in schools; it can occur in the workplace too. If you’re a part of the professional world, consider these steps to support Anti-Bullying Week:
- Policy Review: Take initiative to review and strengthen your workplace’s anti-bullying policies. If they are lacking or outdated, advocate for their creation or revision. Ensure that every employee is not only aware of these policies but also understands the consequences of engaging in or allowing bullying behaviour to persist. We recently wrote about creating an Anti-Bullying Policy in the Workplace which you can read here.
- Raise Awareness: Host not just one-off talks, but an entire campaign within your workplace. Organise talks, seminars, or workshops about workplace bullying behaviour and its prevention. Provide employees with the tools and knowledge to identify and address bullying behaviour, making it clear that such behaviour will not be tolerated. Use Anti-Bullying Week as a launchpad to initiate continuous dialogue, awareness and engagement. A great way to do that would be to look into one of our courses.
- Charitable Contributions: Encourage your organisation to make charitable donations to anti-bullying charities during this week. Fundraising within the workplace, such as charity bake sales, sponsored activities, or donation drives, can be a wonderful way to get everyone involved and to demonstrate your company’s commitment to reducing bullying behaviour.
There are a number of ways you can get Involved with us here at BulliesOut. We have opportunities to join our team, to become a Corporate Partner or why not let us inspire you with some fundraising ideas.
Information for Schools
Schools are at the forefront of dealing with the issue of bullying behaviour. Here’s how educational institutions can actively support Anti-Bullying Week in a comprehensive and lasting way:
- Awareness Campaigns: Instead of a few isolated activities, consider making Anti-Bullying Week a broader awareness campaign. Dedicate a week to a variety of activities, such as awareness sessions, art projects and talks from experts on bullying behaviour prevention. Involve students actively in these initiatives and encourage them to express their creativity in projects that raise awareness about the impact of bullying.
- Student Involvement: Empower students to be more than just passive participants. Provide them with the tools and training to take the lead in spreading awareness among their peers. Encourage them to share their stories, insights and innovative ideas during Anti-Bullying Week events. This not only makes the week more impactful but also creates a culture of student leadership in anti-bullying efforts throughout the school year.
- Parent Engagement: Collaboration with parents is crucial. Host not just one-off parent-teacher meetings but initiate ongoing engagement. Collaborative projects, workshops and information sessions that involve parents, teachers and students can have a lasting impact. Show parents how they can support their children both at school and at home. The key is to build a strong partnership between the school and parents to create a united front against bullying.
We have a dedicated page for schools here.

Our Plans for Anti-Bullying Week
This year, as in the past, we are dedicated to making a difference during Anti-Bullying Week. We will be conducting workshops and training programmes in schools and youth settings. Schools will have access to free activity resources and can purchase our resource kits and merchandise packs.
We are honoured to have the support of our Patron, Nigel Owens MBE, who is championing the campaign. For older children, social media plays a significant role during Anti-Bullying Week, offering schools a platform to share how they’ve embraced the anti-bullying message. Last year, thanks to your involvement, #AntiBullyingWeek trended at No.1 on Twitter and reached over 44 million users on TikTok.
We will:
- Provide primary and secondary resources and activities to assist you in schools and other settings.
- Continue our Anti-Bullying Week School Staff Award Wales, in partnership with the Anti-Bullying Alliance.
- Offer tools for parents and carers to help them understand and address bullying.
- Sell merchandise supporting our cause on our website.
