Talk2Us

One in four people experience a mental health problem.  Recent research has shown that mental health issues in young people has increased by 40%. Whilst not all are down to bullying behaviour, simply having a mental health problem can lead to a person being bullied.

As we come to better understand bullying behaviour, the more concerned health professionals are becoming over the potentially damaging and long-lasting impact that it has on the mental health of those who experience it.

Bullying behaviour can devastate a person’s life. They can lose all faith in their ability,  feel ill and depressed and find it hard to feel motivated to work or learn.

Our Talk2Us Virtual counselling (UK only) offers a convenient and accessible way to receive support, breaking down barriers that traditional in-person therapy may present. One of its greatest benefits is flexibility. Our Talk2Us Virtual Counselling Programme is designed to provide accessible, confidential, and professional mental health support from the comfort of your home.

We know that Virtual Counselling doesn’t work for everyone, but for some people, it can be a good way of trying it out and getting some short-term, much needed support. It also provides a sense of comfort and privacy, as clients can engage in therapy from familiar surroundings. This can ease anxiety and promote openness during sessions.

Here are some of the key benefits:

Personalised Support: Those using our Talk2Us Counselling support will receive a tailored and effective therapeutic experience.

Convenient and Flexible: Access counselling sessions from anywhere via your phone, tablet, or computer—no travel or long waits required. We work around your schedule to make mental health support easy for you.

Confidential and Secure: Your privacy matters. All sessions are conducted securely and confidentially by our qualified, experienced counsellors.

Supportive and Non-Judgemental: Our compassionate counsellors provide a welcoming environment where you can express yourself freely, be understood, and work through challenges at your own pace.

Accessible to All: As it is currently funded, Talk2Us breaks down barriers by offering support to individuals, regardless of background, location (in the UK), or income level.

Early Intervention: Addressing concerns early can prevent more serious issues down the line. Talk2Us empowers individuals to seek help before reaching a crisis point.

If you would like to be referred for our Talk2Us Service, or if you’re a parent, youth worker, social worker, teacher who would like to refer a young person for counselling, please complete the form below and one of our team will be in touch to arrange the sessions with you.

Talk2Us is for those in the UK over the age of 9 years.

We’re glad you’ve taken the first step towards getting support. We know that reaching out for support can take a lot of courage, and we want you to know you’re not alone. This form is just a way for us to get to know you a little better so we can offer the right kind of help.

We know forms can feel a bit formal, but every question has a purpose. Here’s why the information is important:

To match you with the right counsellor – so you feel comfortable and supported from the very first conversation.

To understand your situation – so we can tailor our approach to what matters most to you.

To keep you safe – some details help us know if you might need urgent or extra support.

To make the process smooth – so you don’t have to repeat your story more than necessary.

All your answers are private and confidential. We only share them with the counsellor who will be supporting you.

The application form isn’t just paperwork – it’s the foundation for delivering compassionate, effective, and personalised counselling support to every individual who reaches out to us.

Please allow up to 72 hours for a reply following submission of your form. If you have not heard from us by then, please email talk2us@bulliesout.com

Who will be providing the counselling sessions?

Our Head of Counselling and Mentoring, Amie heads up this programme and in addition to counselling herself, she also manages our small team of trained and qualified counsellors – all who have helped and supported many people from different walks of life who have been impacted by bullying behaviour  or trauma in some way. They are all qualified Therapeutic Counsellors, experienced in working with adults and young people. The person-centred approach is at the core of their work, but integrated with key concepts from other theories and approaches where they feel it would be beneficial. Their aim is to create a safe space to explore the bullying behaviour that has been experienced while strengthening self-confidence and self-belief.

Can you tell me more about the counselling support that will be provided?

We offer people a minimum of 6, funded, 50 minute counselling sessions. If the counsellor feels that they might need more, they will discuss this with them or a parent/guardian.  All sessions take place virtually (phone or videocall).

We know that for many people, 6 counselling sessions isn’t enough, so we are working hard to build partnerships with organisations who can help us fund additional sessions for those who need it.

Is there an exclusion criteria?

We are only able to support those who live in the UK and are over the age of 9 years.

BulliesOut’s e-mentoring connects those affected by bullying behaviour, historical bullying and other issues caused by bullying behaviour, with trained, inspirational professionals, who provide support and help them make confident and informed decisions about their future.

Our e-mentoring:

  • Is a high impact, cost-effective and flexible way to engage with people, who can send messages via email to their mentor anywhere at any time.
  • Is not restricted by geography (UK only).
  • Is completely safe. All mentors are fully trained, DBS-checked and all messages are screened for inappropriate content.
  • Benefits mentors and mentees. It fits around a busy schedule, requires no travel and develops communication skills.
  • Suits a generation often more comfortable asking questions online than meeting someone face-to-face, leading to more open, honest and beneficial mentoring relationships.

To use our e-Mentor service, please contact us using the below form. Once received, an e-Mentor will be in touch with you. Please note, this service is for those based in the UK only.

Please email your name, age, area and a brief outline of what we can help with.

What are e-Mentors?

Our e- Mentors are available to speak, by email, with individuals affected by bullying. We use an e-mentoring service because of its accessibility across distance and location. Communication by e-mentoring is unhindered by nerves, awkwardness, or social restraints and this encourages open and honest conversation.

Our Mentors support people with whatever is worrying them, whether it’s bullying, self-harm or family relationships. They all share the same passion and the same commitment to supporting others and making a difference.

They’re here to listen, offer support, guidance and encouragement and champion online safety for all.

Who can use the e-Mentoring service?

Anyone of any age, who has access to email, can use service for support.

Why does the e-Mentoring service exist?

We exist to provide support to anyone, anywhere who may be experiencing bullying, anxiety due bullying or a challenging time with their mental health as a result of bullying or historical bullying.

How does the e-Mentoring service work?

  1. When in need of support, an individual can complete the form below.  They will then receive an automated response informing them of our waiting time.
  2. The form is then assessed by our Mentoring team who will then pass the referral to one of our e-Mentors
  3. The e-Mentor will then respond by email and introduce themselves to the individual. The e-Mentor and the individual will then communicate by email to identify concerns, provide support and discover steps to take to help resolve the situation.
  4. Our e-Mentors use empathy, effective, active listening skills to provide support of the highest quality

Will you be able to provide me with regular, long term support?

Communication between the individual and our e-Mentor can last as long as it needs to.

Your mentor is here to support, guide, and encourage you – but they’re also a volunteer giving their time to help. To make the most of your mentoring, please keep your messages focused and avoid sending lots of emails in a short space of time.

This isn’t a space to ‘vent’ endlessly – it’s a space to share what’s on your mind, explore solutions, and work together. Giving your mentor time to reflect means they can give you better, more thoughtful support.

Is my correspendence with an e-Mentor confidential?

We take the confidentiality of our service users very seriously and correspondence with an e-Mentor is confidential unless we are concerned about someone’s safety.  If an individual is believed to be in imminent danger or a safeguarding issue is raised, the Head of Mentoring (who monitors all conversations on the platform to ensure the right support is being given) will share the individual’s details with emergency services or appropriate authorities in order to keep them safe.

What if I want to stop my correspondence with an e-Mentor?

You can end your correspendence with an e-Mentor at any time. Of course, we would like to know you are safe and well so would prefer you told your e-Mentor you would like to end the communication rather than ‘just stop’.

Do you store my details?

We anonymise and aggregate high-level data from correspondence in order to study and improve our own performance. We may share some of this data with carefully selected and screened academic partners, but the data is always anonymised, individual conversations cannot and will not ever be shared. Following correspondence, some individuals choose to leave feedback for the service. This feedback is sent to us anonymously and any personally identifying information is removed. We sometimes share anonymous feedback on our social media channels.

If an individual is believed to be in imminent danger or a safeguarding issue is raised, the Head of Mentoring (who monitors all correspondence on the platform to ensure the right support is being given) will share the individual’s details with emergency services or appropriate authorities.

Who are the BulliesOut e-Mentors?

Our dedicated and trained e-Mentors are people from around the UK who volunteer their time to help make a difference to the lives of those affected by bullying. Following a rigorous multi-stage application process, background checks and in-depth training programme, each volunteer e-Mentor commits to volunteering for 2-4 hours a week.

Our Head of Mentoring oversee and assist our volunteer e-Mentors, with the support of our Volunteer Manager. Our Head of Mentoring has qualifications in a relevant field in addition to crisis intervention experience. Our e-Mentors adhere to all of our policies, including our Mentoring Safeguarding Policy, e-Mentoring Privacy Policy, Data Protection Policy and E-Safety Policy.

e-Mentoring has grown in popularity as advances in social media and online communication have given us increasing ability to move the work of mentors into the virtual world. e-Mentoring is about accessibility and flexibility and complements traditional mentoring programmes.

Please note that whilst our Mentors can offer support, guidance and where possible, signposting to a relevant organisation, they cannot answer any questions about financial issues, housing concerns, medical concerns, police or legal issues.

We do have links to organisations that may be able to help with some of these concerns.

If you have more questions about privacy and how we handle your details, please read our e-mentoring Privacy Policy. If you cannot find the answer to your question please feel free to email us.
